Fox’s Los Angeles stations are now the official media partner for the city’s upcoming slate of major sporting events, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and Super Bowl LXI, in a deal that doubles down on the value of live sports for broadcast television as the regional sports network model falters.
A backstage pass: The partnership with the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission (LASEC) will utilize Fox's local channels and streaming platform to give viewers a "backstage pass" to the action. LASEC President Kathryn Schloessman said the deal helps "recognize the organizations that make it all possible," while a Fox executive added they are ready to "highlight our communities."
Hometown advantage: The deal gives Fox a strategic edge, letting it use its local stations to directly boost its national broadcast of the 2026 FIFA World Cup—for which it already holds the English-language rights—and amplify one of its most valuable assets.
An unprecedented decade: The partnership also carries a community focus, with plans to spotlight the local organizers behind the tournaments. Fox's platforms will be used to promote how residents can get involved in what LASEC is branding as an "unprecedented decade" for L.A. sports.
This partnership is a clear indicator of broadcast television's strategy to leverage live, local sports as a cornerstone of its value proposition in an increasingly fragmented media environment.
