Whale TV is expanding its free Whale TV+ streaming service, adding a large on-demand library and making the entire platform available globally through any web browser. The move positions the company to more aggressively compete for a global audience in the crowded free-streaming market.
Doors wide open: The company has added over 4,000 hours of VOD content to its platform, which already features more than 300 FAST channels. The expansion builds on recent content deals, including the integration of Red Bull TV, with VP Teresa Lopez stating the additions are making "Whale TV+ ... an even more compelling destination for free entertainment."
Riding the wave: The expansion follows a period of rapid growth for the service. In its last quarter, the platform’s monthly user base grew by 35%, while the total time viewers spent streaming surged by 70%, indicating strong momentum leading into this global launch.
Faster, smoother, sharper: In a parallel software play, Whale TV also released new hardware reference designs to help its manufacturing partners build faster TVs. The new models, set for 2026, include upgraded 2K and 4K options, with the premium tier supporting gaming-friendly refresh rates up to 165Hz.
This one-two punch of software and hardware highlights Whale TV’s core strategy: grow its hardware footprint and its streaming service in tandem. By providing the underlying OS for TV brands while building out its own content destination, the company is forging a turnkey alternative to the ecosystems dominated by Google, Amazon, and Roku.
The company’s platform strategy extends beyond its own content, as it recently added the Disney+ app for its OS users. Meanwhile, in the broader media world, a major succession battle was recently resolved, with Lachlan Murdoch officially set to continue his control over the Fox and News Corp empire.
