ESPN is nearly doubling its National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) coverage for the 2026 season, announcing it will air 33 regular-season games, up from 17 in 2025. The move is part of a deliberate strategy to build "appointment viewing" for the league's growing fanbase.
Sunday soccer: The new schedule is heavily anchored on weekends, with the vast majority of ESPN's broadcast windows slated for Sundays. The season, which kicks off March 14, will culminate in a new, high-stakes "Decision Day" on November 1, with all final regular-season games airing simultaneously across ESPN networks.
The fragmentation gamble: The expansion is part of the NWSL's larger, multi-partner media rights portfolio that also includes CBS Sports, Prime Video, and ION. A new free streaming service, Victory+, also joins the fold, adding a weekly Sunday night showcase to an already crowded viewing schedule.
The bet is that surging viewership will follow the NWSL across its sprawling new broadcast map—but the strategy's biggest test will be avoiding audience fragmentation. Beyond the regular season, the NWSL Challenge Cup has been rescheduled for a neutral-site showcase in Columbus, Ohio, in late June as part of a complex broadcast schedule for its 14th season.
