Netflix has renewed its hit dystopian anthology Black Mirror for an eighth season, a move that follows the critical and commercial success of its seventh installment.
Golden opportunity: The renewal comes on the heels of a successful awards run for the show's seventh season, which earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Anthology Series and recognized the performances of stars Rashida Jones and Paul Giamatti. The show also held a spot in Netflix's global top 10s for five weeks after its April 2025 debut.
Reality catches up: Creator Charlie Brooker confirmed the show is returning “just in time for reality to catch up with it,” teasing that the new episodes will be “more Black Mirror than ever.” As What's on Netflix first noted, the official announcement avoids the "Season 8" label, leaving room for the series' signature format-bending.
Beyond the anthology: The renewal solidifies Brooker's relationship with the streamer. He is also developing a separate, untitled crime thriller for the company.
Netflix is doubling down on a proven, culturally relevant franchise and its key creator, prioritizing established IP that can anchor its prestige content slate.
