Most streaming platforms measure global reach in markets. Come and See measures it in languages. And the current count? 125 on the way to 600.
The nonprofit behind The Chosen just broke its own Guinness World Record for most translated season of a streaming series, surpassing the 86-language mark it set in September 2025. The new target? 600 languages total across all seven seasons of the show.
That's not a typo. Six hundred. Netflix, which serves an estimated 303 million subscribers across 190 countries as of July 2025, currently supports around 33 subtitle languages and 36 dubbing languages. Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ trail well behind that.
To get there, Come and See operates a translation infrastructure that includes more than 200 linguists, local theologians, pastors, and biblical scholars working across the globe. The process requires matching dialogue, tone, and cultural nuance in languages that, in many cases, have never hosted a scripted television production before.
The distribution model is equally unconventional. There's no subscription fee, no ad tier required, no pay-per-view. The Chosen is free, available through a dedicated app on every major connected TV platform (Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV) and funded entirely by donor contributions.
The story beyond the faith media space is the infrastructure. Come and See has essentially built a global localization operation that rivals major streamers funded through a crowdsourced nonprofit model rather than subscriber revenue.
For streaming executives thinking about international expansion, the translation bottleneck is real and expensive. Come and See's approach, which leans on distributed networks of local language experts rather than centralized localization vendors, offers at least one data point worth examining.
Whether the model scales beyond mission-driven content is an open question. But at 125 languages and climbing, it's hard to argue with the results.
